Wednesday Night Women’s League: Week 2 Recap

The second week of the Wednesday Night Women’s League at Akron Indoor Soccer saw some exciting matches and high-scoring games. Here are the highlights of the four games that took place on February 7, 2024.

You Can’t Sit With Us (2-0) 12 vs AKC Eggplants (0-2) 3

The defending champions, You Can’t Sit With Us, continued their dominant run with a convincing 12-3 win over AKC Eggplants. The Eggplants put up a brave fight in the first half, trailing by only two goals at the break, but the second half was a one-sided affair as You Can’t Sit With Us scored eight unanswered goals. The star of the game was the striker of You Can’t Sit With Us, who netted six goals and assisted two more.

Buckeye Bullets (0-2) 5 vs FFC (1-0) 10

FFC bounced back from their opening week loss with a 10-5 victory over Buckeye Bullets. FFC took an early lead with three goals in the first 10 minutes, and never looked back. Buckeye Bullets tried to reduce the gap, but FFC’s defense was too strong to break. FFC’s midfielder was the player of the match, scoring four goals and setting up three more.

Mom’s Night Out (0-2) 0 vs Goal Diggers (1-1) 8

Goal Diggers earned their first win of the season with a 8-0 rout of Mom’s Night Out. Goal Diggers dominated the game from start to finish, creating numerous chances and keeping a clean sheet. After taking care of the children all day, Mom’s Night Out struggled to cope with Goal Diggers’ pace and pressure, and failed to register a single shot on target. Goal Diggers’ goalkeeper was the hero of the game.

Sharp Shooters (1-1) 4 vs Y-Town (2-0) 6 – Game of the week

The game of the week was a thrilling encounter between Sharp Shooters and Y-Town, two teams that had won their first games. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams exchanging goals and leads. Sharp Shooters took a 2-1 lead in the first half, but Y-Town equalized just before the interval. The second half saw four more goals, with Y-Town scoring three and Sharp Shooters scoring one. The final score was 6-4 in favor of Y-Town, who maintained their perfect record.
